Mindful Social Media Consumption
Ever done "mindless scrolling" on your phone?
Ever wondered why it is referred to as such?
Mindful social media consumption - This is a trending topic on social media these days. But what does it mean?
Social media especially Instagram is no longer just about following your friends, family and acquaintances. You are free to follow strangers and other influencers whom you don't know personally. With the abundance of free information, there are new thoughts being put into your head without your notice.
Content creators and influencers have their own share of issues like creative blocks and looking for quality content to post. Kudos to them for their passion!
But on the flip side is people like me who are the consumers. We tend to forget that we have a choice, a choice to unfollow/unsubscribe to accounts that don't make us feel good, or accounts which we don't benefit from (in terms of information, knowledge, creativity, fun entertainment, etc).
As a consumer of content, I've been there, done that. I've done my share of mindless scrolling till my brain got tired and fried. To the point that it got mentally exhausting. So here's some gyan (wisdom/advice) from my experience.
Just like how we are mindful of what we are eating, being mindful of what goes on our skin, or into our body, we should also be mindful of what is going into our brain - Especially when it comes to social media. Be more aware of the kind of feed you subscribe to, the kind of accounts you are following and ultimately how it makes you feel. Eliminate the negativity for sure, but also make sure to identify the toxic positivity.
Instagram now has become an outlet for my everyday thoughts, my microblog. You may not see the comments on my posts, but I see the DMs I get about how someone found my post relatable. Reactions to my stories instantly brings a smile on my face.
I like that I am getting acquainted with some very warm hearted, like-minded people open to having conversations. (I can be a big chatterbox!)
Social Media should be your stress buster and not the cause of stress!
