Do you think of rain as welcoming or as an inconvenience.

As a child, I loved the school closures during rainy days.

Growing up, rain was more of an inconvenience to me, because I did not like to get wet and muddy. Travelling in public transportation meant that you had to be with a bunch of wet strangers, dripping raincoats and umbrellas until you reached your destination. Not a pretty sight!

I never bought into the romanticized idea of rain that movies show us, with the heroine dancing in the rain with a bunch of kids. I also did not like the gloom that rain brings.

Who doesn't love some hot chai, makka-butta (roasted corn) and bajji during the rain. But the practical inconveniences always took-over and I would think.. "Abba, malli varsham aa" (Oh no, Rain again!)

This week's forecast here in BayArea has rain and I was talking to the kids this morning on how they need to keep on their rain jackets, especially my son who tends to forget his jackets in school most days!

My kids, like me, do not prefer the rain, but only like the idea of jumping in Muddy Puddles (thanks to Peppa Pig, #iykyk).

Over the past decade of living in the BayArea, I have seen warnings of severe drought in Northern California year after year, and rain always feels like the ultimate savior. When spring comes, you can clearly see the difference in the landscape and tell there was good rain that season.

The beauty that spring brings wouldn't exist if not for the rain in fall!

It started raining today as I was in a meeting and I could not stop staring at the droplets of water tinkling on the window pane. As the meeting ended, I opened the window and took in that fresh smell of rain and thought to myself.... "There is so much beauty in rain!". But I will enjoy it more by staying indoor.

Do you enjoy the rainy season? Would love to read any nostalgic memories associated with rain.
